Description

We match at-risk youth with an adult mentor for one year.

The 4-H Friends of Youth program is fairly new in Franklin County, NC. We recieve funding through our local Juvenile Crime Prevention Committee. Youth are referred to us between the ages of 7 to 17 and we except all types of referrals. Some referrals come from the court system, others come from school counselors, and many come from parents. Our program is similar to a Big Brother/Big Sister program. We ask our volunteers for a one year commitment to our program. That gives both the mentor and the youth time to develop a relationship. Mentors meet with their youth for 2 hours every week and do any number of activities (such as tutoring, playing sports, watching a movie, etc.). We offer training/orientation to all our new volunteers.
