Mission Statement

Ambulante Org is the 2005 non-profit organization founded by actors and filmmakers, Gael Garca Bernal, Diego Luna, Pablo Cruz, and Elena Fortes.

Ambulante focuses on supporting and promoting documentary film as a tool for social and cultural transformation. The film festival tour travels to areas with limited access to film to diversify and democratize documentary culture. Ambulante’s objective is to reach a broader audience by screening films in a wide array of venues and offering most of its programming for free. The first U.S. edition will tour the greater LA area and visit different neighborhood parks and community centers from Sept. 21 - Oct. 4

Ambulante California emerges as part of AMBULANTE GLOBAL, and represents the first official attempt to establish a long-term presence within the United States with the objective of implementing future models in other heavily Latino populated states like Texas, Arizona, New Mexico, Illinois and across the United States.

Description

Taking place in 2014 from September 21 to October 4, for the first California edition Ambulante will concentrate on reaching out across the five counties of the Los Angeles metropolitan area.

Each day, the festival will pop up a free screening event at a different place and invite the filmmaker, subjects and special guests for an enriching conversation with audiences after the film. The mission is to support non-fiction narrative storytelling that represents a diverse heritage and to generate vital exchanges of expression and dialogue. Although geared towards the Latino population, the festival is committed to being inclusive and will reach out to engage all underrepresented people of color, age, and gender orientation. Breaking free from traditional commercial venues the tour will include high schools, universities and museums. Driven by its rogue identity and mission to revitalize urban spaces it will also screen outdoor in parks, plazas and makeshift spaces.
