Description

Do you remember what role books and storytime played in your life? Do you enjoy working with kids? Then come volunteer with Reach Out & Read by reading books to kids in a clinic waiting room!

Reach Out & Read (ROR) is a national early literacy program with 3 components: education, books, and volunteering. At a well child doctor's visit (ages 6 months to 5 years), providers educate parents on a child's developmental progress and encourage reading out loud. The child goes home with a brand new culturally appropriate book at each visit, for a total of 10 books by the time he/she is 5. The final component is where we need your help! Being a volunteer reader for ROR entails providing a positive read-aloud experience for the children visiting our clinics. Volunteers model book-sharing techniques for parents, and demonstrate that reading aloud is fun for adults and children.
