Mission Statement

Our mission is to empower local Latino artists to create, produce and present professional theater in English, Spanish, bilingual and Spanglish. We strive for inclusion and self- definition of our artists, representing "all colors in the rainbow of brown" to educate audiences about the many experiences of Latinidad in the U.S. eSe Teatro employs Latino artists (and beyond) and provides them a high visibility professional platform within Seattle mainstream theater. Our strong social component brings theater to under-served Latino communities (and beyond) such as monolingual, low income, homeless and at risk youth audiences.

Description

eSe Teatro is a company of professional theatre artists from the greater Seattle area actively promoting diversity in the local art scene, building artistic bridges w/local, underserved populations & providing a sense of place for Latino artists. We employ Latino & Spanish-speaking theatre artists often marginalized on the mainstream stage. eSe strives to give these artists space for self-expression: physical, creative and/or developmental space; space for dialogue w/Latino communities or simply, space to have our work honored & validated.

The name "eSe Teatro" is significant as "ese" means "that" in Spanish, as well as being the popular Chicano expression of familiarity in peer groups (wus up, ese?). "ese" is also the pronunciation of the name of the letter "S" as in S panish and S eattle.
