Mission Statement

The Friends of Astoria Heights Park is a volunteer, neighborhood group committed to making the park a beautiful, clean, safe and inspiring place to be. To achieve this in manner that is sustainable over time, we are partnering with elected officials, the New York City Parks Department, not-for- profits, whose expertise and purpose align with ours, and a growing gorup of local businesses and organizations, as well as continuing to build capacity within our own group at each park event, monthly business meetings, informational sessions in the park, and expanding our branding and social media outlets.

Most importantly we are committed to building community awareness and engagement with Astoria Heighits Park. Through teamwork we our neighbors, we are promoting appreciation, investment, community pride and regular involvement in the park that will contribute to its improvement and upkeep over time.

Finally, Astoria Heights Park serves a culturally and ethnically diverse neighborhood. Diversity is a core value of our group and our friends group aims to work with our neighbors to make the park a lace where we can gather to celebrate and demonstrate respect for our common values and our unique backgrounds and perspectives.

Description

Volunteers opportunities include direct hands on work in the park, tree care, planting, painting walls, benches, leading activities for children, assisting with set up/ clean up if events, assistance running events.

Additional volunteer needs are in areas of building outreach within community including local schools, businesses, and other To build group's capacity and engagement of Volunteers.

Volunteers interested in fundraising also helpful.

Translators in Spanish, Arabic, other languages very helpful to translate flyers, written materials and do outreach in park.
