•FMSC Vision: With God’s help, FMSC will strive to eliminate starvation in children throughout the world by helping to instill compassion in people to hear and respond to the cries of those in need. "The generous will themselves be blessed, for they share their food with the poor." Proverbs 22:9 In the fiscal year ended 2/29/16 FMSC produced nearly 273 million meals with the help of more than 1 million volunteers to feed 745,496 children a meal a day for an entire year. Working with distribution partners in 52 countries (e.g., orphanages, schools, clinics, refugee camps, and malnourishment centers) FMSC provided life-saving meals to people who need them most all over the world - from countries affected by natural disaster (e.g., Haiti, Philippines) to places enduring economic despair. FMSC believes in sustainability - continuing to provide mission partners with the food they need to maintain their feeding programs.
FMSC brings raw ingredients, equipment and trained staff. The host (e.g., Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Gateway Christian Church, Atonement Lutheran Church) provides the funds and "people power" to produce meals. During two hour packing shifts, adults and children (age 5+) fill and seal bags at work stations. Each meal costs $0.22. The MobilePack host must commit to organize volunteers to pack and pay for the meals packed at their event. FMSC volunteer events have a team-building environment where people of all backgrounds come together for a common cause: packing nutritious life-saving meals for hungry, malnourished and starving children.
One of the best times I have ever had volunteering! They were extremely well-organized. No time was wasted, and they have tasks that just about anyone can do. You can write labels (good for people who need to sit), packers, runners, fillers. We watched a short video and listened to a rep who explained all of the tasks and the benefits of what we were doing that day. Heartwarming! Great opportunity for a family, work group, or even someone alone (like I did)! I highly recommend it!
