Restoring Hope After Tragedy
Restoring Hope was founded in response to the devastating southern Alberta floods of 2013. This disaster changed the lives of every resident affected, including founder Brandon Simmons. Having to be evacuated from work and then home Brandon felt a feeling of hopelessness and fear knowing that there was nothing he could do to change what was happening.
The next few weeks were full of anxiety and distress as Brandon watched news reports and saw pictures of his town completely submersed in water. "There is no way to describe to someone how it feels to go through something like that. For those first few weeks whenever I would close my eyes the events of the flood would come rushing back. I would see water gushing into my car as I struggled to push my car door open to get out. I would see homes and business that were completely destroyed, and I would see myself leaving my home not knowing what would become of it. Without my family, friends, and faith in Christ I don’t know how I would have been able to recover from the events of last summer.
Looking around Brandon saw the despair and hardship that other residents were going through as well and it was then that he decided he wanted to do something to help. Restoring Hope was established to help do just that, to help individuals and families find comfort and hope for a brighter future despite the disasters they had faced.
Restoring Hope works with volunteers and donations to help bridge the gaps left behind by insurance and government aid. We work with our volunteers to help rebuild and restore homes that have been damaged and destroyed. While we help rebuild we also provide comfort and emotional support by helping residents get the counselling and other assistance that they need to put the disaster behind them and move forward with their life.
We can’t do this alone so please become a volunteer and donate today so that together we can Restore Hope After Disaster.
