To provide food to hungry people, advocate for change on their behalf, and engage and mobilize the community in order to end hunger in Western Washington
Founded in 1979, Food Lifeline's mission is to end hunger in Western Washington by engaging communities and mobilizing resources. Food Lifeline feeds hungry families by working with the food industry "from farm to fork" to find unmarketable food at all stages of the food chain and then creates innovative, logistical solutions and programs to meet the need. We provide 91,000 meals a day to over 275 local food assistance programs, and that, combined with our policy work, creates a sustainable approach to hunger. Food Lifeline serves 709,000 people annually via our network of food banks, meal programs, schools and more. Out of the people we serve, 33% are children and 17% are seniors. Each year, Food Lifeline provides our agencies with at least 30% of all the food they distribute to clients.
