Mission Statement

Amarillo Habitat for Humanity, an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, is a non-profit, ecumenical Christian organization dedicated to the elimination of substandard housing in Amarillo (Potter and Randall Counties). Our commitment is to perform the essential community service of building and selling affordable housing to low-income families. We also educate and assist our partner families with the responsibilities of home ownership and maintenance.

Description

Amarillo HfH is a Christian mission that welcomes people of all faiths and goodwill to join in the ministry of building communities through volunteering to build homes with and for partner families at home and around the world. As part of this world-wide fellowship Habitat for Humanity Affiliates tithe their donations to help build in "third world" communities.

HfH makes purchase of simple well-built homes a reality for families unable to secure a mortgage through traditional means. These partner families invest their time and energy in Habitat, earing "sweat equity." Habitat then provides them no-interest mortgages on their homes. In Amarillo, these are generally set up for 25 years and average $52,000.

Amarillo HfH is dedicated to the proposition that substandard housing can be eliminated and that the work done through Habitat for Humanity programs globally can be a catalyst in this effort.
