Mission Statement
The mission of the Diabetes and Exercise Alliance is to empower people with diabetes to be physically active, without concern about limitations imposed by the disease, through active social support and sharing tips, tricks, and publicizing diabetic-friendly events through an email newsletter.
The Diabetes and Exercise Alliance also promotes the notion of a "Diabadass," a physically active person with diabetes (either Type 1 or Type 2) who defies expectations and accomplishes great things despite the disease. Part of how we promote this message is through "epic" events such as the Texas Capital to Coast Relay, a 223-mile relay run from Austin to Corpus Christi, in which we are fielding the event's very first team of diabetic runners.
We celebrate the accomplishments of our "diabadasses" and encourage all of our volunteer membership to imagine something amazing you wouldn't normally associated with having diabetes, and then go do it!
Description
NOTE: The Diabetes and Exercise Alliance is a 100% volunteer based organization. We do not collect dues. That said, for some events such as those listed, we do incur expenses, which we attempt to defray if possible.
