Description

NATIONAL HISTORIC LANDMARK SEEKS MOTIVATED VOLUNTEERS. THIS IS AN EXCITING OPPORTUNITY TO BECOME INVOLVED WITH ONE OF PHILADELPHIA'S MOST UNIQUE HISTORIC SITES.

Laurel Hill Cemetery, which was established by John Jay Smith in 1836, is one of Philadelphia's premier historic sites and the second oldest rural garden cemetery in the United States. Designated as a National Historic Landmark in 1998, Laurel Hill is one of the only cemeteries in the nation to receive this honor. In 1978, the Friends of Laurel Hill Cemetery, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, was founded to support the cemetery. The mission of the Friends is to assist the Laurel Hill Cemetery Company in preserving and promoting the historical character of Laurel Hill.
