Description

one out of three adults in Florence County are functionally illiterate and unable to fill out a job application, read the instructions on a prescription label or help their children with homework.

The FALC is a nonprofit organization that has been teaching adults to read since 1976.We provide all of our services through volunteers.Any adult,18 or over,in the Pee Dee area can receive free instruction for the following: Basic reading and math,GED preparation, preparation for the Armed Services entrance test, workplace skills and English literacy for non-English speaking residents. The Council's efforts are driven by the motto, "Each One Teach One," which means we believe that adult learners' educational attainment depends strongly on the amount of one-on-one instruction they receive. We strive daily to follow our mission of providing quality instruction to those in need, which ultimately leads to improved self-esteem and self sufficiency.
