Wentworth Hospice offers free training for those interested in working with Hospice patients. Classes can be tailored to meet your needs! Please call DJ Antone at (603) 692-0220 to schedule an interview. Training schedule is flexible. Volunteer services are needed in Strafford, York and Carroll Counties. NOTE: Wentworth Hospice follows strict guidelines and policy regarding COVID-19. All volunteers must adhere to our Personal Protective equipment policy when in a patient's home or in a facility. This includes the wearing of a mask and face shield/eye goggles. Volunteering with Hospice is about being there for the entire family, not just the patient. Each patient has their own team and the volunteers play an essential role by providing patients and their families with compassionate care and support during the end-of-life process. So, what is your Gift? What can you offer a patient and/or their family? Below are the most commonly requested things asked for: RESPITE.....sitting w/the patient while the caregiver leaves to grocery shop, pay bills, or just take a much needed nap. 24/7 caregivers are exhausted and need a break to take care of business and take care of themselves. FOOD PREP......making a light lunch or dinner for patients who live alone or helping the caregiver make meals. COMPANIONSHIP.....for both the patient and the family member or caregiver. Patients want someone to listen to them, play games, provide music. Often, they just want someone to be a comforting presence, with little to no activity. Other areas that patients appreciate: Music--Guitar, singing groups, etc. MASSAGE therapy (licensed) REIKI PET therapy (certified) Military Veteran companionship----this is a huge request! If you want to help our Care Center, but do not want to visit w/patients, perhaps you would like to help with Administrative tasks or the many behind the scene activities that are essential: Data entry Office work Sewing Making a Chart of Life for a patient Annual Memorial Service If you believe you can help those who are the end of their life journey, please call DJ at (603) 692-0220 to schedule an interview. Training requirements: 22 hours of training; 15 of which are classroom hours.
