The 2018 hurricane season has been extraordinarily active in parts of the U.S., with Hurricane Florence currently impacting millions in the Carolinas. As this natural disaster unfolds, the staff here at VolunteerMatch is doing its part to ensure that, if you are in an affected community, you are prepared and safe. And if you are looking to help with disaster relief efforts, you know about the most effective ways to contribute.
Comfort Zone Learning Center, Inc. has four openings for volunteer tutors. We are asking that the tutors have had prior tutoring experience or have retired from the School System.
"Helping Through Literacy, One Child At a Time", is the focal point of our design. Without the skills of comprehension, our students aren't reaching their target reading goals. Comfort Zone uses a safe, semi formal learning environment that encourages students to explore and learn. Our "Tutoring" Program is held for 3-4 hours for a minimum of 3 days a week. Developing positive skills, attitudes and behaviors to become viable assets in the community are our second focus; our primary focus is literacy in academic areas. Other focal areas include communication skills and relationships, valuing diversity, problem solving, decision making, goal setting and social responsibility.
