On average, the Red Cross responds to approximately 64,000 disasters a year. Of these, about 50,000 are single and multi-family fires and other localized events to which the Red Cross Disaster Action teams respond. Disaster Action Teams provide 24-hour emergency response ensuring that those affected have access to resources for basic necessities such as food, shelter and clothing. We need you to join us on the Disaster Action Team! This is a volunteer opportunity (unpaid) but great for resume content and work experience. Provide excellent and enthusiastic customer service to enhance the blood donor experience. Engage with blood donors to promote blood donation and set the stage for a long-term commitment to regular blood donations. Express gratitude and ensure each blood donor is sincerely thanked for their donation. Responsibilities: Greet blood donors. Check potential donor temperatures. Attend to donors in the Hospitality Area by ensuring that each donor is recognized for his/her contribution and watched for possible adverse physical reactions Set up and maintain cleanliness in Reception and Hospitality Areas May make reminder calls or reschedule donor appointments - Please note: Drives (and volunteer needs) are mostly during business hours on weekdays. Requirements: Ability to display the utmost professionalism and communication skills Extremely comfortable working with people from diverse communities and backgrounds Ability to understand technology needed for position: Donor Check-in, Donor Tablet, Rapid Pass, Donor App. On-boarding with the American Red Cross Biomedical Dept Donor Ambassador Training. Operations Lead Associate: Fleet Lead Volunteer Purpose Play a lead role in the scheduling, utilization, maintenance and documentation, of American Red Cross vehicles to ensure the organization has a fully operational and deployable fleet. Responsibilities Ensure each vehicle’s registration, insurance and associated documents are properly stored/displayed in all regional fleet vehicles. In collaboration with Operations leadership, ensure all vehicle licenses and registrations are current and required state and federal inspections are completed. Support vehicle maintenance and repairs in concert with the fleet vendor (Element) and the local automotive maintenance and repair shops. Work with local service providers and Fleet team members to ensure timely preventive maintenance on fleet vehicles. Perform light maintenance and support keeping vehicles clean to ensure the fleet remains in top condition. Manage local fleet vendors to ensure the system is current for accurate inventory, registration, and Preventative Maintenance work orders. Coordinate issuing maintenance of fuel cards and driver Personal Identification Numbers. Conduct regular inspections of vehicles to identify repair or maintenance needs. Identify vehicles for repair, disposal, or replacement at the direction of the Regional COO. Support annual replacement cycle and the arrival of new vehicles and disposal of retired vehicles. Onboard, guide and potentially supervise other regional fleet volunteers to perform work throughout the region, including addressing routine maintenance and repairs at approved vendors Partner and support regional Operations team on local fleet strategy and process improvements to find efficiencies in maintaining the regional fleet. Support the onboarding of new authorized drivers to the American Red Cross in all departments ensuring they have received correct training on the organizations processes and safety guidelines as it relates to fleet. Ensure all authorized drivers have received and read Fleet Manual. In coordination with Operations leadership, provide direction and supervisory support to fleet volunteers throughout the region. Time Commitment 5-10 hours per week. Qualifications Maintain a valid driver's license from the state in which they reside Qualified MVR (motor vehicle record) Knowledge of DOT (Dept. of Transportation) a plus, but not required Communication and interpersonal skills The ability to assist with fleet coordination using logistical organizational skills. Attention to detail and adherence to deadlines Knowledge of vehicles and light mechanics preferred Length of Appointment 3-6 months; Opportunities will vary by location.
