An American Red Cross Community Volunteer Leader (CVL) is serves as an ambassador for a community, with the primary goal of developing, building and expanding the presence of the Red Cross in a given area. A CVL serves as the face of the Red Cross to local communities with a dedicated focus on recruiting volunteers, managing relationships, fulfilling region-wide objectives and supporting delivery of the Red Cross mission. What is this role? A Community Volunteer Leader (CVL) is a leadership volunteer who works in partnership with the Executive Director. The CVL helps recruit a volunteer workforce that is both inclusive and represents the demographics of the community and fills the specific needs identified by the region. Qualifications: Serving as an advocate, representing the Red Cross volunteer needs within your specific community. Sharing volunteer needs within social networks and other circles of influence. Meeting with community groups and schools to share about volunteer opportunities. Helping build and enhance presence in the local community. Providing Red Cross updates to local service clubs (Rotary, Kiwanis, etc.). Participating in local community events as an extension of Executive Director. Assisting with cultivating, managing and stewarding external partner relationships. Supporting routine meetings with key stakeholders (fire chiefs, mayors, veteran organizations, local media partners). Requirements: Passion for the Red Cross mission and the community Interest in promoting volunteerism Be a creative self-starter who is able to successfully manage multiple tasks and priorities Embrace diversity and inclusion Sharing volunteer needs within social networks / circles of influence. Meeting with community groups and schools to share about volunteer opportunities. Helping build / regain/ enhance presence in the local community. Providing Red Cross updates to local service clubs (Rotary, Kiwanis, etc.). Assisting with cultivating, managing and stewarding external partner relationships. PLACEMENT PURPOSE Ensure military families’ needs are met when faced with an emergency. TIME COMMITMENT Flexible, with a scheduled commitment (10-20 Hours a Month) KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Support the critical community services cases; which can include an intake interview to assess client needs and providing appropriate service to clients including referrals to other agencies; and the follow up process to include making follow-up calls to military members and/or families to determine if their needs are met, providing other follow-up actions needed for complete and timely client service Maintain strict confidentiality of any case notes, names and other personal information in accordance with Red Cross policies Understand and apply Service to Armed Forces (SAF) policies, procedures and protocols related to Red Cross client services consistently and correctly Able to support Red Cross SAF mission; have an awareness of and appreciation for military culture, military families, and veterans' issues Demonstrated ability to treat people with respect under all circumstances and instill trust in others while upholding the values and principles of the American Red Cross TRAINING Orientation to the American Red Cross Specific SAF on-line casework and case management system training Specific SAF classroom training regarding practices, policies and procedures SAF Basic Training webinars (SAF Overview; Military 101; Family Follow-up; etc.) Diversity, Sensitivity and Awareness eLearning (Recommended)
