Mission Statement

Advance western American maritime history, primarily by advancing the J. Porter Shaw Library of the San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park.

Description

The Friends build research level collections in and foster usage of the Library and in general advance western American maritime history: make biennial $1000 Kortum Awards for research, publish maritime monographs under the imprint San Francisco Maritime History Press, fund selected projects in collection management, sell duplicate books, host the Captain Fred Klebingat Memorial Lecture Series, and publish the newsletter Relative Bearings.
