Mission Statement

Black Women in Computing (BWiC) is a community created to provide support and resources aimed at increasing the number of black women in computing-related fields.

Description

BWiC focuses on the following 4 goal areas:

  • BWiC Presence
  • Recruitment and Retention
  • Online Resources
  • Support System (Local & National)

BWiC maintains listservs and social networking forums to keep members informed, connected and supported by their peers. We host company-sponsored enrichment and networking events at the annual Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing Conference. We implement programming and gaming workshops to expose young minorities to computing and start them on the pathway to careers in STEM.

This organization is focused on increasing awareness of participation of Black Women and other underrepresented minorities in the tech field. They do this through computing workshops, mentoring, support and much more. A great organization to volunteer in their events.
