Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Rockville Centre assists in serving basic needs of the poor, weak and oppressed and is committed to addressing to the causes of injustice by organizing and empowering people to secure the participation of all in the life of the community. The legal services of the Volunteer Lawyers Initiative (VLI) are provided to candidates directly by the attorney and not by Catholic Charities, the Parish, or the Outreach center. The VLI is a network of parishes and their volunteer attorneys, coordinated through Catholic Charities, designed to help individuals on Long Island to free legal assistance. The Initiative gives lawyers an opportunity to connect directly with individuals who satisfy minimum (but flexible) financial standards. All individuals, regardless of religious affiliation, seeking legal aid should contact their local parish. If an attorney is needed, trained parish staff will try to put you directly in touch with a volunteer lawyer. If available, the attorney will be working directly with you in confidence.
