Mission Statement

The Mission of Harlem4Kids is to support and enrich an inclusive network of Harlem families through fun and creative programs that celebrate cultural diversity.

Description

Harlem4Kids is a parent-run, non-profit that was established in 2006. The organization was founded by five neighborhood parents and is still run exclusively by a board of parent volunteers.

There are two main ways we build community through our network: one is through the founding program, our baby and toddler storytime hours, which provide early literacy, cognitive skill development, and family bonding through reading, singing and movement. The second is the Harlem4Kids listserv, which provides an open forum for members of the community to connect and exchange dialogue on topics of interest. To date, we have over 2,000 members of our listserv, and they represent the richly diverse community of Harlem.

Another cornerstone of Harlem4Kids is giving back to the community. Harlem4Kids, along with the many families that have participated in its programs, have supported several charities in the community through clothing swap events, coat and book drives.

Our vision is for families of all socioeconomic, racial, ethnic, and religious backgrounds to be united through mutual respect and understanding, and to work together toward the betterment of our childrenand the Harlem community as a whole.
