Looking for a long term, fulfilling volunteer position? Elite Hospice is looking for volunteers who can provide spiritual and emotional support to our patients and their families without proselytism. As our patients are of many faiths, we are careful not to impose our own believes but look for someone who has a calming presence and can make end of life visits. Visits are on average once a week per patient. You can take on one, or several patients, depending on what your time allows. We are currently looking for volunteers who help with filing, alphabetizing, laminating, hole punching, copying etc. Volunteers need to be available any day/time during weekday work hours 8:00am - 4:30pm. We accept applicants who are students and need community service hours as well as Senior groups or anyone who has a passion for Hospice. All applicants need to pass a background check. What is hospice? Hospice is a specialized type of care designed to provide support to those facing a life-limiting illness, their families and their caregivers. Hospice care addressed the patient's physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs. The goal is to raise the patient's quality of life in a humane and compassionate way to they may live each day pain-free, with as much comfort and dignity as possible. Elite Hospice: We are dedicated professionals committed to providing an all-encompassing approach to end of life care. The hospice team supports patients and their families through the work of physicians, nurses, nurse aided, social workers, chaplains, bereavement specialists and volunteers. We serve a radius of 50 miles from our Springdale office and need volunteers in all surrounding communities. The Volunteer Program Because everyone has unique talents and skills, volunteer tasks are assigned based on what you enjoy doing. Most volunteer opportunities are flexible in time. Play your guitar, piano, cello, violin, flute or other soothing instrument at nursing homes in Springdale and surrounding communities. At Elite Hospice we take pride if giving our patients the best care possible. Ease patients mind with music adds to the clinical care. Depending on the assignment your will spend one on one time with our patient or play in the common room to a group of residents. All volunteers are trained according to Hospice guidelines. Patient visitor: Share your friendship with patients or family members at a nursing home or private home close to you. Volunteer training and Hospice Core training is required and provided. Patient companions are not expected to provide personal care to patients but be a friendly visitor with great listening skills. Volunteers may read to patients, play board games, play soothing music or assist in writing or filming the patients Biography. Social visit times are flexible and at a location near you. Elite Hospice serves a radius of 50 miles from our Springdale office. On average volunteers visits their assigned patient 1-4 times a month for an hour each, but any time helps! Other volunteer opportunities Caregiver relief: Sit with the patient up to 4 hours to provide respite for the Caregiver. Volunteers do not provide personal care to patients but are a watchful eye over the patient while their Caregiver goes grocery shopping, has a Dr. appointment, etc. Gift: This group of volunteers provide a loving, caring and peaceful atmosphere when a patient and family requires additional emotional support or when actively dying. Volunteers receive specialized training and may sit at the patient’s bedside for shifts lasting up to 4 hours. Administrative Assistant: Help with various administrative duties at our Elite Hospice office. e.g sorting, copying, laminating, copying, scanning. Music Therapists: Play soothing instruments to patients and families in care facilities. Beautician: Provide simple haircuts and nail care to hospice patients. Pet Therapist: Share the love of your licensed therapy pet with hospice patients and family members. Event Assistant: Assist staff during events affiliated with Elite Hospice. Craft specialists: Sew, crochet or knit a variety of needed crafts like Adult bibs, lap blankets, shawls, slippers, etc. The Volunteer Program Because everyone has unique talents and skills, volunteer tasks are assigned based on what you enjoy doing. We are looking for a dedicated volunteer to play an active role in the Pet Peace of Mind program. The PPOM Coordinator will be directing the program, while the volunteer keeps close contact with a Veterinarian, Pet shelter, groomer. The Volunteer must have a strong background in animal handling experience and not shy away to care for a Hospice patients pet in that home. Volunteers are assisting in the general well being of the pet if the patient is no longer able to including: Feeding, Grooming Veterinary care Rehoming if needed. Other opportunities to help include fundraisers and upkeep of a Pet food pantry.
