Mission Statement
Uweza Foundation fights the cycle of poverty in the Kibera slum of Kenya by building upon and nurturing already-existing capabilities and resourcefulness. Our programs and services invest in the youth of Kibera through education, life skills training, talent development, and economic empowerment.
Description
Our programs include a soccer academy, journalism and art clubs, traditional dancing group, educational scholarship, a girls' empowerment club and life skills training. We also partner with other local and international organizations to run the largest soccer league in Kibera, provide Kibera residents with solar lighting sources, and coordinate microfinance services and business start-up opportunities.
Uweza's operations in Kibera are run out of the Uweza Community Center, which is a safe space for community members to meet and for children to engage in productive extracurricular activities, explore their talents and interests, and develop holistically.
