About the job Share My Smile is a non-profit organization supporting foster and adoptive families by providing family strengthening events and care programs to encourage true, honest, and happy smiles in children. Share My Smile has been a growing part of our community since its inception in 2010. We were founded to serve as a supportive organization for foster and adoptive families and children for Southwest Iowa. We currently serve 17 counties in Iowa and Douglas County in Nebraska. We serve over 450 foster and adopted children and their families. BOARD MEMBER JOB DESCRIPTION The Board of Directors of Share My Smile (SMS), in active collaboration and partnership with the Executive Director, shall frame the issues and think creatively of opportunities and challenges to be met for SMS to be an exemplary nonprofit support organization. The legal duties and responsibilities of the Board Members are generally outlined in the SMS Bylaws and Iowa Governor’s Nonprofit Task Force’s Guidebook for Iowa Charitable Nonprofit Organizations, (2011). Each Board Member should be conversant, and compliant, with the Handbook and their contents. Most fundamentally, each Director has a duty of loyalty and a "duty of care". The provisions listed below are not limited to these following key responsibilities and actions required to meet those legal and ethical duties, and effectively govern the organization. Board Terms SMS Board Members will serve a minimum of a three-year term and may be eligible for re-appointment. Board meetings are held once a month for one hour virtually every third Tuesday of the month at noon and quarterly in person for two hours as set and scheduled by the Board ahead of each quarter. Participation in at least one board committee is encouraged. Current committees: Finance, Mission Victory, Leadership. Attendance at a minimum of two program events/activities expected per year. Share My Smile’s Board of Directors work to improve, promote, and maximize organizational growth and development. Directors will assist with fundraising each year through personal gifts as well as through relationship development with potential donors. In addition, Directors play an important role in extending Share My Smile’s connections by assisting with welcoming participants of programs and events.

Lunch and dinner provided! What we need help with for this event: Unloading items from trucks, bringing them into the church, placing them in the labeled areas Setting up tables and chairs in gymnasium Set up craft table in gymnasium Prepping kitchen for catered dinner (turkey, ham, sides, rolls, desserts, beverages Setting up tables in entry way Preparing entryway sections Decorating Serving food Assisting tables Clean up (putting away tables/chairs, take down decorations, box up all items, load truck) This is such an awarding event to be a part of! You are directly serving our foster families and kiddos! Most foster children have never even celebrated a holiday, so this is a big deal! Share My Smile Volunteer Leader Job Description Purpose Volunteer leaders are essential to the success of Share My Smile (SMS). They help ensure our programs and fundraising events run smoothly and effectively and are integral in providing services to the foster and adoptive families we serve. Volunteer Leader Roles and Responsibilities Share My Smile has a limited number of paid staff members to oversee day-to-day operations. Volunteers are needed to carry out tasks associated with major events such as Operation Holiday Smiles, and major fundraising events such as Smile Fest and the Gala. Under the guidance of paid staff members and members of the SMS Board of Directors, volunteer leaders will: Participate in special event planning and execution Share of their talents and skills for the betterment of the organization Assist with volunteer recruitment efforts to help with Share My Smile events At times, serve as a point person at live events with decision-making authority Oversee / manage a team of volunteers assigned to them, particularly during an event in management of a section Assist with training to volunteers as to best practices utilized by Share My Smile Volunteer Leader’s Required Skills Interpersonal Skills Successful SMS volunteer leaders will have the ability to build relationships. Volunteer leaders feel confident in their interpersonal skills to form the relationships and partnerships that sustain a program. The Ability to Inspire Volunteer leaders are in charge of doing just that - leading. They must continuously motivate others to support SMS’s cause and donate their time as needed. Volunteer leaders need to be comfortable managing teams, inspiring communities, and celebrating volunteer involvement. Volunteer leaders feel comfortable being in a leadership position and have an eagerness to grow further into the role. Reliability Volunteer leaders need to be reliable. Leaders have strong communication skills, voice concerns respectfully, respond to questions and feedback in a timely manner, follow through on commitments and assigned tasks, and have regular attendance at meetings and assigned events. Organizational Skills Volunteer leaders may oversee many moving parts or at times be in charge of projects that require attention to detail and organization skills. Volunteer leaders need to have a knack for staying organized and have developed helpful skills for handling pressure or fast paced environments that are consistent with events. Passionate and Community-Minded Volunteer leaders must be passionate about the work and mission of Share My Smile in order to stay engaged with the organization and inspire others on their volunteer team to give 100 percent while volunteering for SMS. Leadership Team Statement: Volunteer leaders have the unique opportunity of making a difference in the lives of the foster and adoptive children and families we serve. There are multiple aspects of the Leadership Team that allow an individual to get involved in a capacity that best highlights their skills and talents to best support Share My Smile. Purpose Volunteers are essential to the success of Share My Smile (SMS). They help ensure our programs and fundraising events run smoothly and effectively and are integral in providing services to the foster and adoptive families we serve. Share My Smile has many opportunities available for creative, committed, and motivated individuals. These positions would work alongside Volunteer Leaders, our Executive Director, and our Program Specialist depending on the position. Leadership Assistant This individual is the assistant to our Executive Director and Program Specialist, working closely with both to support the daily and ongoing operations of the organization, sharing in the tasks and duties. Program Support Coordinators These individuals work directly with the Program Specialist to support the immediate and ongoing needs of Care for You Action, Project Birthday Joy, and Operation Holiday Smiles Event Committee Vice-Chair This individual is the co-lead to the Executive Director for major events including the Gala and Smile Fest. SMS Awareness Agent These individuals work to spread the word about Share My Smile and assist staff in making community connections that support growth in partnerships, donors/sponsors, and volunteers. These individuals may lead or support social media and marketing efforts, community networking engagements, and other related activities or tasks. Volunteer Team Member These individuals hold a seat on the volunteer team without an above title and contribute to the collective work of the team through the sharing of their skills and talents and completing tasks as assigned.
