Description
Mission:
The mission of BBBS is to provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better, forever. BBBS’ mentoring model forms lasting relationships between volunteer mentors and children facing adversity. Through a screening and interview process that exceeds national standards, professionally trained case managers provide ongoing supervision and support, engaging with the children, their families and mentors to ensure optimal safety for children and that maximum outcomes will be achieved for each child.
Program Outcomes:
At KSBBBS, we hold ourselves accountable to demonstrating outcomes for children matched in our program in three critical areas - socio-emotional competencies such as higher aspirations, greater self-confidence, and better relationships; avoidance of risky behaviors including juvenile delinquency; and educational success.
Big Brothers Big Sisters is an evidence-based prevention program that is data driven and outcomes based. Groundbreaking research revealed that boys and girls who are matched to Big Brothers or Big Sisters were significantly less likely to initiate drug use, start drinking alcohol, skip school or resort to violence to solve problems.
