Volunteer Data Entry and Office Assistant: Kansas City Free Eye Clinic About the Kansas City Free Eye Clinic: The Kansas City Free Eye Clinic provides essential vision care services to those in need within our community. About the Position: This combined role offers a unique opportunity to support the clinic's operations in two key areas: data entry and office assistance. You'll play a vital role in ensuring information accuracy, smooth daily operations, and a welcoming environment for patients and staff. Responsibilities: Data Entry: Accurately input patient demographics, appointment details, and other data into our electronic health records system. Maintain and update patient records following each visit, ensuring data integrity. Verify data accuracy, adhering to HIPAA regulations and data confidentiality protocols. Assist with data-related projects as needed. Office Assistance: Greet and assist patients and staff with a friendly and helpful demeanor. Answer phone calls and direct inquiries appropriately. Assist with scheduling appointments and managing clinic paperwork. Maintain a clean and organized office environment. Support staff with administrative tasks as needed. Qualifications: Strong computer skills and proficiency with data entry software. Excellent organizational and time management skills. Attention to detail and ability to work accurately and independently. Effective communication and interpersonal skills. Compassionate and committed to serving the community. The Kansas City Free Eye Clinic (KCFEC) is a 501(c)3 nonprofit that serves as a safety net for vision care, operating on a volunteer and community-based model. We strongly advocate for eye health for all individuals and believe that clear sight is essential for everyone. The Ophthalmic technician is a vital asset to the team, providing noteworthy care to patients with a wide range of duties that include working in conjunction with the optometrist to perform pre and post exam care, and maintaining the doctor's appointment schedule to ensure efficient patient flow. Major duties and Responsibilities Explain and perform the preliminary examination process prior to doctors examination Obtain patient's physical history, to include chief complaint and reason for visit Gather past history both ocular and general and family Review medications and allergies, including current ocular prescription and non-prescription medications Measure eyeglass prescription using manual or automated lensometer, recording sphere, cylinder, axis, and prism Maintain pretest and examination equipment Uphold detailed patient records Conform to all HIPAA regulations and sustaining strict patient confidentiality Perform miscellaneous clerical duties *Note: These statements are intended to describe the essential functions of the job and are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities. Candidates will occasionally be required to climb, balance, and stoop, kneel, and bend. Candidates must be able to lift and/or move 15+ pounds. Requirements A high school diploma or GED equivalent Must have reliable transportation Previous experience working as an optometric technician or in a medical office preferred, but not required Note: This is an unpaid position.
