The vision of the West Olympia Farmers’ Market is:
to provide an opportunity for Olympia small farmers and producers to sell directly to their local community,
to foster connections between community members and their local producers,
to promote the sustainability of local agriculture,
to create a neighborhood-scale market that increases the social and economic vitality of the local community.
Both farmers and processors of Washington-grown products will find a supportive outlet for the sale of their goods. The Market encourages commerce that is conducted in accordance with the Washington State Farmers Market Association (WSFMA) Roots Guidelines. In order to promote the market and foster the sense of community that makes farmers’ markets such a valued community resource, all vendors and staff are expected to behave in a professional and civil manner toward each other and their customers at all times. The success of the West Olympia Farmers’ Market is dependent on the cooperation of all market constituents. Vendors, staff, and customers who work together will build a healthier, more enjoyable market where all vendors can prosper, customers can find the quality products they expect, and producers and consumers can make the connections that build community.
The West Olympia Farmers' Market began as a vision of four West Olympia growers in the summer of 2010. After receiving overwhelmingly positive encouragement from friends, neighbors, farmers, and other residents of the westside, the group saw a clear need for a Farmers' Market and began taking steps to form one. After much hard work and planning, the West Olympia Farmers' Market launched in the summer of 2011. 2014 will be the fourth year of the Market; the season will open at 4pm on May 15, 2014.
