Mission Statement
The Sunset Neighborhood Beacon Center (SNBC) is a unique partnership where youth and adults who live, work, or go to school in the Sunset have joined together to strengthen our neighborhood. We work with individuals, organizations, and city agencies to improve the quality of life within the community.
Description
SNBC is based at multiple middle and elementary schools in the Sunset where it offers many programs, services, and activities to the community. Programs include tutoring, after-school classes and referral-based activities. An intergenerational program, Experience Corps, connects teams of older adults as mentors and tutors to chilren. Special programs for young women, support groups for teens, and our Youth Coalition develop youth into leaders for the next generation. Classes for youth and adults include recreation, arts and computer skills. To celebrate the diversity of our community, we also sponsor special events and classes specifically for the Chinese and Russian populations.
Additionally, SNBC also houses a Sunset-based Safety Network Community Organizer. The mission of the Safety Network is to organize and engage local community members in developing and advocating for sustainable grassroots strategies to improve public safety, making San Francisco's neighborhoods safer places to live, work and play.
