Mission Statement

VINES is an organization committed to developing a sustainable and just community food system. We do this by bringing together diverse groups of people, with a focus on youth development, to establish community gardens, urban agriculture and community green spaces. We strive to develop and beautify urban sites and empower community members of all ages and abilities.

Description

VINES is a non-profit corporation that organized in 2007 to create and sustain community gardens in the Binghamton area. A community garden is a parcel of otherwise underutilized city property that is managed and developed by community members to produce food crops for personal consumption. A garden’s bounty may also be donated to soup kitchens or shared with others in need. For a minimal rental fee residents can grow their own food in a garden plot alongside their neighbors!

We provide eduation on the topicof gardening and food preservation to ensure the success of our garden members' food growing ability.

We manage the Binghamton Urban Farm, a half acre market garden where we sell vegetables to the community through our Farm Share program and the Downtown Binghamton Farmers Market. We employ at-risk teens to work each Summer at the urban farm.

Binghamton Farm Share is a Food Box program resembling a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) model in that residetns can more easily afford local, organically grown fruits and vegetables.
