We are an all volunteer, artist run organization. Our mission is to assist emerging artists in advancing their artistic careers, and to present the art-of-today in an easily accessible format.
Description
Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition (BWAC) is the largest artist-run organization in New York City. Founded in 1978, we present over 500 artists exhibiting more than 3,000 new works to thousands of visitors annually. Our artist/exhibitors are the staff, management, leadership, and board. They participate in non-juried shows with minimal artistic restrictions. BWAC inspires them to network with other artists, new collectors and a larger community. Patrons and collectors can create relationships with artists and acquire art at affordable prices. Our motto is "Support Living Artists".
BWAC's combined 25,000 square foot gallery spaces are in two floors of a Civil War-era warehouse on the Red Hook waterfront. With four annual indoor exhibits and an outdoor sculpture show, we present a wide variety of contemporary visual arts. The exhibitions incorporate juried competitions with national and international submissions. BWAC recruits prestigious independent jurors to assure quality and impartiality in the selections. BWAC collaborates with musicians and filmmakers to present "Unplugged in Red Hook" weekly music performances and our annual Red Hook Film Festival.
