Mission Statement

THe Santa Barbara Police Activities League builds bridges to foster a positive relationship between the youth of Santa Barbara, the police department and other members of the community by providing quality educational, cultural and athletic programs.

Description

Since 1999, the Santa Barbara Police Activities League (SBPAL) has offered quality activities for the youth of the community with direction and focus on low-income and youth at risk of gang violence. Founder, police officer Kent Wojciechoski envisioned an organization that would become a strong foundation for a supportive relationship between youth, police department, and community. Since its inception SBPAL has grown from serving 50 children to now offering programming and services for more than 500 children every year.

Our goal is to expand the learning period of public schools and help close the achievement gap through after-school program enrichment. The objective of the program is to foster an environment where students who are in the middle or are underprivileged can enjoy opportunities that would otherwise be unavailable. Law enforcement officers are active in their role and commitment to PAL as coaches, mentors, and by providing in-field intervention. Everything we do at PAL is designed to encourage academic achievement, community service, leadership skill, self-esteem, and personal development.
