The Stein institute for Research on Aging (SIRA)

SIRA was Established in 1983 as an Organized Research Unit at the University of California, San Diego, School of Medicine. SIRA's research efforts focus on the causes of the degenerative diseases of later life with the ultimate objective of identifying and developing improved methods of prevention and treatment. The unit consists of 85 researchers representing many different departments including Medicine, Bioengineering, Family and Preventive Medicine, Orthopedics, Neuroscience, Surgery and Psychiatry. By bringing together scientists and clinicians from diverse specialties we increase the rate of discovery and thus our ability to solve the problems posed by the diseases that increase with age.
