Mission Statement

"Prosperity must be shared and the poverty of your neighbour is your poverty".

In the Ubuntu the focus is on sharing. By sharing, a person becomes happier, and that is eventually better for the whole community. This is not just about materialistic things but as well about sharing of knowledge.

With sharing of knowledge you must, those who haven’t gotten the opportunity to learn, provide the community an opportunity and give them access to educate themselves. It is necessary to understand the needs of others before acting.

(Leaderships lessons of Mandela, Spectrum 2006)

The motto of the employees of I Go Student Travel in the Netherlands and South Africa is based on the Ubuntu. They want to offer all students the opportunity to share their knowledge with others to eventually benefit from it. But as well to gain more experience and a broadly developed social view of that what happens around the world.

An internship or volunteer placement in South Africa doesn’t only benefit you but as well the community you work in.

Description

Our volunteers and interns work in the communities around Kenton on

Sea, Eastern Cape. And work on multiple projects like soup-kitchens,
pre-schools, after school programs, foster homes, orphanage, and any
other project that can use the help of some extra hands. We offer a real
experience in which you will see the real side and no polished sightings
or staged performances, no just the life that is lived in the townships.
With the people who live it and speak from their hart, act out of
culture and are sincere in their interest.

With us there are no extra costs for agents, no trapped extra costs,
but open and honest plain fixed weekly rate of 150 euro per week. This
includes accommodation (shared room), transportation to the projects,
cleaning services, internet and tv, and guidance of a community
coordinator. For 50 euro extra we will add the food to the program so
you don't have to go out for shopping. The program runs from Monday to
Friday and in the weekends you are off to explore the area, we have
transportation available for a small extra fee (cheaper than rental
cars) to take you places in the area.

We are in need of volunteers from February to October every year.

The volunteers can do a 2 to 8 week volunteer time period.

The cost is 150 Euro’s per week and this includes accommodation, transportation to and from centres. These are Monday to Friday programmes.

The Volunteers will stay in Kenton-on-Sea, a small coastal Village in the Eastern Cape of South Africa. This village is much safer than being in a big city, we have found. You will have coordinator to help and advice and be there as your support.

The Volunteers can have Saturdays and Sundays to travel around this Eastern Cape area at their own expense. If you are interested in spending some time in South Africa on a voluntary basis, please contact Ellen Fober on ellen@igostudenttravel.com or call her on +31 (0)6 407 153 08 she will assist you with all you queries.

Once the Volunteers have completed their time at the centre, they can travel the famous Garden Route up to Cape Town. It is absolutely beautiful and lots to see and do along this route. We can, on your behalf organize and plan your trip from Kenton up to Cape Town at an admin fee of 200 Euro’s.

This will be for the organizing of your entire trip, accommodation, transport, bookings, calls, emails, pickups etc. This would need to be communicated with us beforehand, so there is sufficient time to plan your amazing trip. If doing this trip up the Garden Route to Cape Town after your volunteer program, it would then be advisable to fly back to your home from Cape Town Airport.
