Mission Statement

The Tashiro Kaplan Tenants Association represents the current tenants of the Tashiro Kaplan Artist Lofts in their efforts to organize and promote cultural, educational, and other types of non-commercial events in the building and community, and to act as a point of contact and tenant advocate in any possible disputes with building management or ownership.

Description

The Tashiro Kaplan Artists Lofts (TK) opened in June of 2004 to provide 50 units of affordable housing and creative space to artists and their families, as well as over 25 commercial arts related. Since that time, the TK has become a vital, and vibrant, center for the arts in downtown Seattle.

The Tashiro Kaplan Tenants Association organizes and promotes cultural activities in the Tashiro Kaplan Artist Lofts building and in the Pioneer Square neighborhood. The TKTA supports special event productions such as the TK's annual Open House, and a variety of activities that take place in conjunction with the monthly Pioneer Square Artwalk. In 2014, the TKTA produced a first of its kind Art Street Fair in honor of the building's 10th Anniversary. With broad support and encouragement from the community, we decided to make Art of the City an annual event.
