The Advocacy Volunteer position supports the organization by conducting research on relevant policy issues, legislation, and regulations impacting PCOA's mission. This role is crucial in helping to identify potential allies, partners, and stakeholders, monitoring legislative and regulatory developments, assisting with writing advocacy alerts, and organizing advocacy events. Volunteers in this position play a vital role in advancing PCOA's advocacy priorities and ensuring that the organization remains informed and engaged with relevant policy matters. Do you enjoy encouraging others to accomplish healthy living and well-being goals? Or, do you want to help people who are or know someone living with a chronic disease? If so, consider becoming a Healthy Living Volunteer! In this role, you will support the Healthy Living Staff by assisting with and/or leading Matter of Balance and Chronic Disease classes (some in person, some virtually), and help with set-up and take-down before and after classes. If you are comfortable speaking in groups, interacting with others and providing constructive feedback, have a sincere desire to help others, and have basic computer skills, this could be the perfect volunteer opportunity for you! You would not be on your own - your team would be available to you for training and support, and some classes have co-teachers. Once trained, the time commitment for each of these roles varies, but classes are scheduled in advance so you can plan around them. All volunteers must fill out an application packet, submit to a background check, and obtain a Level 1 fingerprint clearance card (paid for by PCOA). The purpose of the Photography Volunteer position is to support the organization by capturing high-quality images that document our events, activities, and impact. These photographs will be used in various media, including our website, social media, newsletters, and promotional materials, to enhance our visual storytelling and engage our community. Volunteers in this position have the flexibility to concentrate on specific areas of interest, such as event photography, portrait photography, or candid shots, allowing them to contribute in ways that best align with their skills and passions. By fulfilling these responsibilities, the Photography Volunteer helps to create a visual archive that strengthens community engagement, improves outreach efforts, and fosters positive relationships with our supporters, ultimately contributing to the overall success and mission of the organization. Make a difference in the lives of LGBTQI+ older adults and get involved with Visibility Matters! As LGBTQI+ people age and need supportive services to meet their aging goals, many of them question whether it is safe to share with their providers that they are LGBTQI+ due to stigmas they have witnessed and experienced over their lifetimes. The Visibility Matters trainings help professional care providers learn how to be more aware, sensitive, and responsive to LGBTQI+ older people and their families. Visibility Matters trainings are held both in person and virtually, and the Training Facilitator/Presenter provides these interactive workshops to diverse audiences. As a Visibility Matters Training Facilitator, you would run in-person and virtual trainings using video conferencing software, in-person technologies, and PowerPoint software. In this role, you would need to be able to create a warm, welcoming atmosphere and interact respectfully with attendees. You would also be responsible for any set-up and take-down of equpment, and for tracking attendance. If you have a foundational knowledge about older adults and LGBTQI+ communities and history, are comfortable speaking in public and utilizing technology, are reliable and consistent with job responsibilities, and are patient and respectful toward others, this may be the perfect volunteer opportunity for you! Volunteers for this program must be at least 18 yrs old, must meet all requirements for volunteer onboarding, including ability to pass a background check and obtain a level 1 fingerprint clearance card, and shoulld be able to lift and/or move up to 35 pounds.
