Description

MAKE A DIFFERENCE IN THE LIFE OF A CHILD

The WICAA Foster Grandparent Program is dedicated to providing individuals age 60 years and older, who meet established income eligibility guidelines the opportunity to serve as volunteers with meaningful assignments at local non-profit organizations working with special or exceptional needs children. By providing this intergenerational program we expose the elderly and the youth of our community to each other in a positive and mutually beneficial manner. This exposure results in a positive impact upon the quality of life of the volunteer, the child, and our community. Foster Grandparents serve an average of 20 hours per week and for this service they receive a small tax-free stipend to cover the cost of serving. They also receive transportation or mileage reimbursement, meals while on duty (as provided by the Volunteer Station), an annual physical examination, and supplemental accident and liability coverage while they are serving.
