Science from Scientists’ mission is to improve students' attitudes and aptitudes in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) to ensure our nation’s youth is competitive globally in STEM fields.
Science from Scientists (SfS) sends real, charismatic scientists into classrooms during the school day to teach hands-on, frameworks-relevant Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) lessons to students in grades 4-8. Our vision is to increase the number of Massachusetts' students pursuing STEM careers. We are working to improve students' attitudes and aptitudes in STEM in unique ways: 1) our instructors are real scientists, 2) our program is offered during school and includes all students, especially those who cannot attend out-of-school enrichment, 3) we teach every other week for the entire year, and 4) we have 80+ engaging, experiment-focused, frameworks-based lessons. We help students to build knowledge and confidence in their ability to "do science" that will prepare them for success in high school and college. Our during school STEM enrichment program has a proven track record of success - last year, students in our program showed an average 23% increase in their Science, Technology, & Engineering (STE) MCAS scores. SfS was recently awarded @Scale Endorsement from the MA Department of Education for our work to improve student achievement in STEM and prepare classroom teachers through our state-certified Professional Development Point program.
