Mission Statement

Missoula Aging Services promotes the independence, dignity and health of older adults and those that care for them through advocacy, education, services and volunteer opportunities.

Description

Help adults in need of extra assistance

Through the Senior Companion Program, people age 55 and older provide assistance and friendship to frail older adults and their caregivers, adults with disabilities, and those with terminal illnesses. Senior Companions usually serve four to six clients on a weekly basis, serving 20 hours a week. If you are interested in being a Senior Companion, you must meet income eligibility requirements, and for your time you will receive a modest, tax-free stipend to offset the cost of volunteering. Other benefits include reimbursement for transportation and accident and liability insurance while on duty. Pre-Service and monthly training sessions provided.

I am a volunteer with the Missoula Senior Companion Program. I have four lovely little old ladies as my clients. Each of us look forward to our special time with each other once a week. We go shopping, we keep medical appointments, we sometimes just do lunch, and then maybe go to the Rose Garden and breathe in the fragrant air and oooh awww at the glory of Mother Nature. We visit and laugh and complain about stuff and just spend some quality time togeather. This program is so wonderful in that seniors can find a friend that cares and is there for them as they strive to live independently. Through my volunteering with the Missoula Senior Companion Program I have benefitted in so many ways. Mainly I just feel good about life and so enjoy my clients and our friendship. Missoula Aging Services is just the best agency I have ever been so privileged to be a part of. Wonderful, giving, people all around. Yep, this program is what I call a "WINNER". Jonell D. :)
