Serving the Greater Rochester, New York area, our Senior Companions help frail elders at home and in 3 area Adult Day Programs. Following a personal interview and a thorough orientation and training program, volunteers are matched with frail elders. Our Senior Companions volunteer 15 to 40 hours a week and assist with a variety of tasks to help someone stay living independently at home. After carefully reviewing your skills and assessing what tasks you'd like to do, a match is made with a frail elder or elders in need. Senior Companions are placed with from 1-5 elders depending on needs. As a Senior Companion you attend monthly training meetings with our entire volunteer group giving you the opportunity to meet other volunteers and share your stories and ideas. In addition to the regular assignments, our special focus areas include Respite for Caregivers, Elder Abuse Prevention and working with elders who have Alzheimer's or related dementia. Transportation assistance, recognition events, semi-annual day trips and case management referral is provided for all volunteers in addition to the other benefits listed. Our program offers volunteer opportunities to both English and Spanish speakers. Si habla Espanol.
