Mission Statement
The Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, (PanCAN), established in 1999, is the first national patient advocacy organization for the pancreatic cancer community. PanCAN works to focus national attention on the need to find a cure for pancreatic cancer. We provide public and professional education embracing the urgent need for more research, effective treatments, prevention programs and early detection methods. PanCAN also funds research grants for pancreatic cancer, as well as providing patient services. Volunteers, both locally and across the country, help us to accomplish our goals. November is National Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Month!
Description
PanCAN has three major programs including Patient and Liaison Services (PALS), research advocacy and educational/awareness initiatives. PALS is a comprehensive program for pancreatic cancer patients, their families and health professionals that integrates the clinical trial process into extensive patient information and guidance from our PALS Associates. Research Advocacy includes direct funding of research grants and advocacy to increase the level of research funding from the national government for pancreatic cancer. Finally, our educational and awareness initiatives include outreach to the professional community, as well as our grassroots efforts. Our local TeamHOPE's volunteers strive to increase awareness through health fairs, media efforts and benefits, such as our "6th Annual Ol' Country's Boot Scootin' for PanCAN", a BBQ dinner/dance/silent auction & more! It will be Saturday, October 27, 2007
