Mission Statement

Preserving our global ocean, maritime arts and sciences, and island cultures

Description

Ocean Voyages Institute was founded in 1979 by a group of international sailors, educators, scientists and conservationists. In 2008, Ocean Voyages Institute established Project Kaisei as its ocean trash clean-up initiative with the mission to introduce marine debris prevention and clean-up solutions.

Project Kaisei formed to address the problem of industrial and consumer plastic waste accumulating in our global ocean. We are committed to preventing and cleaning-up man-made waste that flows into and accumulates in our ocean and to showing that the existing waste that can be retrieved from the ocean can be converted to fuel or other value-added materials.
