Dance Theatre of Harlem is a leading dance institution of unparalleled global acclaim, whose mission is to maintain a ballet company of artists both of African-American and diverse backgrounds, who perform the most demanding repertory at the highest level of quality; to maintain a world-class school that trains young people in classical ballet and the allied arts; and to deliver education and community outreach programs that provide positive role models, instruction, and introduction to the arts.

Description

Dance Theatre of Harlem (DTH) runs a professional studio school, conducts public performances and operates an extensive education and community outreach program. Each component of Dance Theatre of Harlem carries a solid commitment to enriching the lives of young people and adults through education, social awareness and artistic excellence.

DTH programs make the beauty and discipline of classical dance accessible to diverse audiences, thereby giving ballet a new relevance in today's multicultural society. The organization provides young artists - especially those living in the inner city - with opportunities to study, participate and excel in the performing arts.
