Mission Statement

This project entitled, "Service Learning: Linking Three Generations", was designed to establish intergenerational teams of current Molloy students, enrolled in the Introduction to Gerontology course, and community volunteers--baby boomers as well as retirees. These teams would collaborate with the goal of enhancing some services for the elderly who, with their families, are involved with transitions to more formalized care facilities.

Description

Service learning is actually a formal method of education; a way of integrating community service opportunities into the curriculum. It enables students to expand their knowledge of their academic course material by engaging them in a "hands-on" project of civic involvement. Including community baby boomers and retirees on the service teams brings an added dimension to the project. Students receive the benefit of these experts' experience, wisdom, and enthusiasm for volunteering.
