Arts Matter Inc. is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization dedicated to providing visual arts and art history programs to elementary schools in disadvantaged neighborhoods. Visual arts nurture the hearts and minds of children and fuel the desire to learn. As a part of our mission, we seek to provide a greater sense of self for each child, and a wider appreciation of their personal culture and heritage.
Arts Matter provides an 8-week series of lessons taught in the classroom that incorporate the introduction of great works of art with hands-on art making. Through guided observation and discussion, students learn the elements, concepts and skills involved in the creation of art and the application to social studies, language and mathematics. Art presented includes works from leading museums around the world and meets the curriculum standards set by the state of California for visual arts. The program was developed through the collaboration of teachers, and museum educators. Curriculum, lesson plans, art materials, supplies and art books are included with the program.
