Mission Statement

Our goal is to improve the health and well-being of our older community members by providing nutritious meals (Congregate and Home Delivered Meals), daily activities to enhance socialization, enable independence and improve the quality of their lives.

Calhoun County Council on Aging (CCCOA) is a county agency that provides programs and services to promote the well-being of aging persons residing in Calhoun County, SC. Its purpose is to help them maintain their independence, function to the best of their ability, and to inform them of resources, activities and opportunities available in the community.

CCCOA provides the following services for the residents of Calhoun County age 60 and over:

Congregate Meals: provide one hot, nutritionally sound meal five days a week in a congregate setting to enhance socialization with others and to provide nutrition, health/wellness education and daily activities.

Home-Delivered Meals: provide one hot, nutritionally sound meal five days a week to the door by a volunteer or agency staff members. This service is for persons who are age 60 and older, homebound and unable to purchase, prepare or otherwise obtain their own meals. Hot meals are delivered in a three mile radius of the town limits. Frozen meals are available to be picked up once a week for those persons who live outside of the delivery area.

Home Care: provide assistance with light housekeeping chores to individuals age 60 and older who have a chronic illness, have limitations with instrumental activities of daily living, and have limitations that affect their inability to maintain a safe and sanitary home environment without assistance.

Transportation: provide fixed route door-to-door service for clients participating in the congregate meals programs. We transport these clients to the meal site and down town for grocery shopping, picking up medicine, and paying bills.

Physical Fitness: provide Arthritis Foundation Class two days a week as well as access to a treadmill, stationary bicycle, and a sitting elliptical machine.

Senior Companion: CCCOA is in a partnership with Orangeburg Community Action Agency to placed a senior companion (volunteer) in the home of a frail elderly person to provide friendly visitation, to read, write letters, walk with or toll the wheelchair and assist with meals.

Information and Assistance: provide information to older adults, caregivers, community organizations and other callers about services, programs and resources available in the community to assist older persons.
