Mission Statement
Save a Bull is a pit bull advocacy program of the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society dedicated to decrease the number of pit bull-type dogs at MHHS and decrease the time they spend waiting for a home. We strive to accomplish this with an emphasis on community education, spay/neuter services and more.
Description
Founded in 2011 upon the recognition that over half of the dogs at MHHS were pit bull-type dogs and that they stayed more than twice as long as dogs of other breeds, we have a multi-pronged mission.
1. Reduce the number of pit bull-type dogs that come into the shelter through several prorams:
Low-cost spay/neuter programs.
Low-cost obedience classes to any pit bull-type dog in the community.
Educating the community about the true nature of thee dogs to make them more appealing to adopters. We also hold storuptime events for children, where they sit with a certified Therapy Dog and listen to stories and lessons about being a responsible dog owner, safely meeting dogs, etc.
Getting our name into the community to ensure those who need our services know they are available.
2. Enrich the lives of the dogs waiting for homes in the shelter. Our Enrichment Commutee organizes many activities including scent work activities for the dogs to keep them physically and mentally active. They also have enrichment and puzzle toys to keep their environment stimulating.
