Mission Statement
2014 Summer Volunteer Program starts on 28th June and continues through to 19th July. As an integral part of this 3-week volunteer program, participants will be volunteering at a non-profit organization that works in the fields of education and community development in Yunnan, serving less fortunate individuals with limited economic and educational opportunities. While volunteering, international participants will be paired with Chinese participants from Shanghai and together they will be involved in a variety of activities. All participants will share the same apartment, will eat together and participate in a variety of cultural activities in the evening. This will be a fantastic opportunity for both the groups of participants to learn intimately about each other’s cultures, debunk myths about the same and learn to appreciate diversity.
Description
This program aims to give participants an insight into the issues that the development sector of China encounters, while gaining valuable volunteer experience in Asia's fastest growing economy. The program will be based out of Kunming, the cosmopolitan capital of the Yunnan province. Yunnan is one of China’s three poorest provinces with millions of people living below the poverty line. Most of these people belong to the ethnic minority groups that are concentrated in remote villages, where even the basic amenities of life are restricted. We want to emphasize that we will not charge any fee for this volunteering program. Additionally, we will provide free meals and housing to the participants.
