Description
Chicago International Charter School (CICS) opened in 1997 with two schools, and has grown to 15 campuses in Chicago and 1 campus in Rockford, serving students in grades K-12
Our students are representative of Chicago's neighborhoods: 96% are minority, and 86% qualify for free/reduced lunch status
We serve 9,222 students from communities across Chicago from as far south as Altgeld Gardens to as far north as Peterson & Pulaski. Our families live in all 50 city wards, with many sending their children to a CICS campus in their neighborhood, and others traveling across the city for a CICS education
Our schools are
- Tuition free and with no entrance exams
- Non-selective, enrollment is determined by random lottery
- Rigorous, with a longer school day and year
- Filled with highly qualified teachers
- Closing the achievement gap between urban students and their more affluent peers
