Read 2 Me's Mission: We strive to enrich lives by inspiring people to volunter and share in the joy of reading. We advocate for and create opportunities, beginning at birth, which nurture lifelong learners in the communities we serve.

Read 2 Me's Vision: Creating a literate world

Read 2 Me is a 501(c)(3) non-profit registered in Washington. Read 2 Me pairs struggling readers in grades one through three from sixteen Tacoma elementary schools with volunteer tutors from throughout the community. Volunteers are recruited and trained to tutor students individually to increase their reading ability, self-esteem and long-term academic success. Over 8,500 students have received individual tutoring since 1988 when the program was founded. Community volunteers commit to tutor their students for one full school year, meeting weekly in a Read 2 Me-designated classroom to assist them with reading.

Description

Read 2 Me provides reading tutoring and mentoring to children in grades one through three who are most at risk of academic failure by pairing them with volunteer tutors from throughout the community. Read 2 Me's overarching goal is to help struggling students read at grade level by the fourth grade and provide the caring committed support of an adult role model. During the school year, each Read 2 Me student works individually with an adult tutor to improve his or her reading skills.
