Mission Statement

Second Chance at Love Humane Society is a nonprofit, no-kill organization comprised of volunteer professionals dedicated to the rescue, care and placement of homeless dogs with responsible families who will provide loving care for the lifetime of the animal. We believe in resolving behavior issues by providing exercise, leadership and discipline to our rescue dogs. We are dedicated to the elimination of overpopulation through aggressive neutering programs as well as the reduction of homeless animals through effective public education.

Every dog adopted from Second Chance has been spayed or neutered, fully vaccinated and heartworm tested, and micro-chipped for permanent identification. Second Chance at Love volunteers work diligently to assess each dog's temperament, personality and behavior. We develop a relationship with each adoptive family to find the dog best suited for them. Although we hope every placement is permanent, we will always take a dog back if, for any reason, the placement does not work out for the adoptive family.

Our founder, Cheri Lucas, is the first of only 3 people ever mentored by Cesar Millan, star of National Geographic's "The Dog Whisperer." Because of Cheri's knowledge of dog behavior, Second Chance is able to rehabilitate our rescue dogs with behavioral issues. This allows us to place dogs that otherwise would have been deemesd unadoptable.

We also host Dog Behavior Seminars and Dog Behavior Workshops for the public which bring financial support to Second Chance.

Our work is supported entirely by donations, grants and gifts from caring people. Our dogs are alive and thriving to the generosity if people who share our love of animals.
