Mission Statement
To work toward ending homelessness by educating the Central Ohio community about homeless issues and advocating in a unifed voice for social and economic justice for all people, especially those who are most vulnerable
Description
The Columbus Coalition for the Homeless is a nonprofit advocacy organization which works to identify and implement solutions to end homelessness in Central Ohio.
Founded in 1986, the group is staffed by only volunteers and has a large membership composed of homeless service providers in the city as well as homeless and formerly homeless persons and community citizens.
The Coalition's programs include:1) Unsheltered Life: an educational program to provide infromation about homelessness; 2) Street Speech: an alterantive newspaper that provides opportunity for employment to low-income indivudals 3) advocacy and intervention for homeless persons having difficulty accessing programs; 4) an annual public forum on an issue related to homelessnes; 5)an annual brunch for homeless mothers and their children;6) an annual Memorial service to honor those homeless persons who have died on the streetsthe previous year; and 7) other national and state advocacy efforts to assure the rights of homeless persons
